Irfans Maulana Firdaus

I am a PhD student in Atmospheric Science Laboratory, Geophysics Department, Graduate School of Science, at the Tohoku University, Japan.

Before doing my PhD, I went to Meteorology (B.Sc) and Earth Science (M.Sc) at the Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia. My previous research were about analyzing the spatio-temporal of Persistent Elongated Convective System (PECS) in Indonesia and investigating the mechanism of initiation and regeneration of convective cell in Bandung Basin (complex topography) in Indonesia.

Currently, I do research on tornado in tropical region, especially in Indonesia. Tornadoes are often happening in mid-latitude region but tornadoes also can occur in tropical region. For example Tornado Rancaekek 2024 (in Indonesian). I do analyze the climatological tornado for Indonesia by collecting tornado reports since 1800, investigate the environment condition that can lead tornadogenesis by examining tornadic parameter using reanalysis and sounding data, and simulate the Tornado Rancaekek using numerical modeling (Weather Research and Forecasting Model).
